About Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind. Everyone has already experienced hypnosis. We use this commonly occurring, natural state of mind all the time, without realizing it. For example, if you have ever been watching a television program and become so absorbed in the show that you began to shout at the football players or cry over the plot you were in hypnosis. Someone may have even walked into the room, but you were so focused on the TV that you didn't even notice until they raised their voice.
Another example is when you’re driving down the road, deep in thought, and suddenly you realize that you’ve missed your exit. This is called “highway hypnosis”.
The U.S. government defines hypnosis as having two parts:
1. The bypass of the critical factor
2. The establishment of acceptable selective thinking
When we bypass the critical factor, we are able to release limiting beliefs. We then are then able to establish acceptable selective thinking. For example, let’s say we want to begin a new exercise program. Our belief is “exercise is too boring.” We enter a state of hypnosis, bypass that message, and instead choose to focus on how good it feels to exercise. We’ve now established the belief that exercise is a positive experience, and are surprised to find ourselves looking forward to and enjoying regular exercise.
The hypnotic state is an optimum state for making changes in your life because you can release limiting beliefs that may have been preventing you from moving toward a more healthy, and happy you.
Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnosis
Can I be hypnotized?
Using modern hypnosis techniques, anyone of normal intelligence who is willing to follow instructions can be hypnotized.
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind. You have already spontaneously experienced it thousands of times. One simple example of this is daydreaming. Another is when you are watching a movie and become so involved in it that you find yourself experiencing emotions in response to the action on the screen. Perhaps the most recognized type of spontaneous hypnosis is called highway hypnosis. While driving, you get so caught up in your thoughts, that you nearly miss your turn.
What is a hypnosis session like?
Your hypnosis session is confidential. It is a time for you to use the training of the hypnotherapist to enable you to make the important changes you choose to make. First you will learn more about hypnosis. Then you will talk with the hypnotherapist about the specific changes you would like to make. When you feel all your questions about hypnotherapy have been answered, you will then be guided into a state of hypnotic relaxation, where you will begin the process that will help you achieve your desired results.
How many sessions will it take?
Depending on the issue, sessions generally run between two and six, with four to five being average. It is recommended that the sessions be spaced no more than a week apart.
Each session builds on the previous one(s) to synergistically create a powerful process for change.
As a part of the individual sessions, a mind/body/spirit self-hypnosis technique, called 7th-Path, will be taught to those who are interested in that type of thing. This will reinforce the work done in each session as well as give the client a tool to use in the future for any other changes he or she would like to make.
What are some of the ways hypnosis has helped people?
Hypnosis has helped many people fulfill their goals of weight loss, smoking cessation, pain control, stress reduction, improved memory, more satisfying relationships, increased motivation and confidence, better sleep, breaking old habits, overcoming fears, business success and more.
Self-Hypnosis
At Embodied Spirit, we teach 7th-Path Self-Hypnosis. 7th-Path is a powerful, easy to learn, Mind/Body/Spirit approach to self-hypnosis. It is unique because you will learn to deprogram your mind and eliminate old programming before you start giving yourself suggestions for change.
7th-Path can be learned as part of your individual sessions. And, once you’ve achieved the success with the issue you originally chose to work with, 7th-Path can be used to make any other changes you’d like to make. It is easily adapted, and you will be taught how to do that.
7th-Path can also be learned in a group setting. Self-hypnosis in a group is a powerful way to learn 7th-Path. It is also a good way to connect with others who are interested in making positive changes in their lives.
